R.I.P. Freeman Dyson

The laws of nature are constructed in such a way as to make the universe as interesting as possible.

I was scrolling through my news feed while watching a college basketball game on TV. The story almost got by me. I did the electronic version of a double take and scrolled back. I exclaimed "oh man" out loud. (this required me to explain to my wife who he was and why it was important)

In reading the various obituaries on the web I was reminded of one of his books,  "Infinite in All Directions".  I had vague memories of reading this book a few years ago.  Well...more than a few. A couple of decades ago I belonged to a science book club. I was usually too busy to really go through and select the offerings so I ended up getting the default monthly shipment. I want to say that his book was in one of those shipments.

Because of the uncertainty I decided to order the book. Should arrive soon and I look forward to (re)reading it.

One of the quirks of my odd mind is how much I enjoy reading books written by physicists for lay audiences.  Especially books that transcend pure science and dabble in metaphysics.
